I have been asked to help out a friends son who was given a O'Day 25, unknown what year. I previously owned a 23, but that was over 5 years ago and they are very different. The boat has been left in the water for some time, and there is plenty of rain water in the cabin. The motor was left attatched and sitting in salt water for a few years. I have not even attempted to operate the centerboard pendant. I suggested he gets towed to a marina and have a short haul. We can inspect the centerboard, get the bottom cleaned and painted and check the boat. He is only 22 and has very little money to play with. In addition he is going to have to find a used motor. He says he has a friend that can dive and check the centerboard, and scrub the bottom. Right now my major concern is the rigging. The Topping Lift is cut, and I am not even sure how it is connected to the boom. Also, the main sheet does not look like it has any way to be removed from the fiddle and block. It looks like the whole thing is rivited together. On my Cat 30 Mainsheet everything comes apart, and line replacement is quick and easy. Would someone have a manual they could copy and send? I can be reached off line at jaffew@welchallyn.com. Right now I have my hands full with my boat, but I am committed to helping add another sailor to the world.
