oday 26 paint tint

ok, i have been playing with the paint for a while, and, interestingly, it seems that the Oday "almond" is just a whiter version of the nonskid. I took two oz of white, and have so far mixed a 110 drops, 10 at a time, of the grand banks beige into it., and am letting that dry onto a piece of the skin i cut out under the mast. (That now seems like years ago. see thread "sea trek;.. trouble with tabernacles") It still looks too light, but i am going to see how it dries.

The finish on an O'Day 26 is gel coat. Are you painting on gel coat? I understand that Rudy sells the correct color gelcoat and it is also available from a company in Florida in spray cans. I have posted that site several times, maybe even once to you.
If you are painting, then paint the whole boat. That is why you see completely green, red and blue O'Days. They have been painted, imagine that?

nah, goin with one part poly..
i'm not gonna paint this year. the gell is in good shape, and will buff out nice. the owner before last...a doc i worked with, kept it in a covered lift.....I think she will look nice when done, in spite of the amature way i am going about it.

I decided to do poly becuz it just looked alot easier, no sanding after and such. plus i know paint, i don't know gelcoat...but i realize it is second best and will look patched. I will dull the poly to make it look more like gell.Keith,

I'm glassing over the sink thru-hull tomorrow. Then I plan on installing the new main bulkheads then the hull liner fabric. I've got the bottom scheduled for sandblasting Monday.rich, check this site...they have tint, epoxy, and other stuff...

I told you I posted that web site before. So you are using it. I use their pigments to tint epoxy close to color that I am fixing. I makes putting on the final color matched finish much easier than trying to hide the usual brown.
I also recommend using their Kelvar tapes for repairs. Good stuff. Works like glass but much stronger. But also hard to cut. See:

So your wife wants a place to put her bottom down? I told you that many posts ago that the ladies want the powder room. That is a big reason why I moved up to this boat.
Now if you know of a 26 foot boat with 30" draft and a stand up shower, just let me know.

I am going to paint. I already have painted part, and today, if it will quit raining (which it wont) i will paint some more. I am only painting the patched areas. Fortunatly they are areas where fittings are attached, so I am hoping it will look ok.
As far as the interior, I decided to go with off-white painted bulkheads. I thought this would look nice with the teak trim. The cabinets (forward sink, rear sink) will still be wood grain. I had wanted to put teak or mahogany strips along the cabin walls where the cloth liner used to be, but that is a bit expensive. I first saw that idea in caseys this old boat. It involves tabing some stringers vertically, then running strips of hardwood horizonatly along the sides of the cabin. I like the idea of the airflow behind it, and the look, but the work would be substantial, and the cost is rather high for the hardwood plank.
today i have to order ports. I am thinking of ordering the NFM ports. Not sure which one, SS or the plastic ones, they both look great. The SS are over 100 bucks more per port that the plastic NFM ports.
I ordered the front hatch from rudy friday. I changed the tiller to "mild curve".
My wife is starting to get very nervous about the cost.....

those guys have a customer service department that will answer questions on phone or by email. Your question should be answered by them, don't you think?
As to your work, you are doing very good. The wife will like her powder room. Have you considered the inside wall of the bulkhead color as pink?

! And I have a $50,000 oday. Lynn told me I could paint the bulkheads white, but she may change it to pink. I just do what I am told. I think I will like the white enamel bulkheads with the teak trim. If i ever get it finished, i will post the pix (of course) for comments.
The paint I applied to the epoxy did not adhere well. I followed all their instructions for applying topkote to epoxy to a T. So I thought. I called yachtpaint (interlux) today. We are not sure what happened, but we think that the primer has to be applied thinly in two or three coats, if it is applied too thick, then it does not cure properly and the topkote will not adhere. So Defender marine is going to send me another quart of "epoxy primekote" for free.
Inspite of how it appears, i try to research and read as much as I can, but I seem destined to learn the hard way.
BTW, I wrote the Fla Gel-Kote people today to ask about color for oday 26. Wish i had seen that before the i went with the paint.:cry:

So painting is fine, as long as it sticks.

http://www.minicraft.com/ That's the site that I was trying to find for you the other day. I thought that I had put it in my "Favorites", but couldn't find it. Someone posted it on this forum about a year or two ago. Gel-coat is still hard to work with without the proper knowledge and equipment and I'm am lacking in both. We had a guy in a local boatyard that did excellent work in fiberglass repair and gel-coat. You could never tell where the repair was made. He had all the equipment including a full face mask respirator. We lost him last year of lung Cancer. I'm very reluctant to do fiberglass work of any kind. Good luck with your project.

This is why my 22 year old son (a cancer survivor) and I will be riding 192 miles in the Pan Massachusetts Challenge http://www.pmc.org this year. My wife and I started doing the ride 3 years ago when he was diagnosed. This year he has recovered enough to do the ride himself as a "living proof" rider. My wife, who is an EMT will volunteer on a road crew team. On Saturday evening, my son will take part in the opening ceremonies at PMC Night at Fenway, by riding his bike around the warning track at Fenway Park with other survivors that are doing the ride. With the donations we have gotten in so far this year, combined with the last two years, we have just crossed the $41,000.00
mark. This money goes to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. That total has me very humbled, but also proud of the support from friend, family and community. So Joe, on August 1st, my son and I will be riding our bikes though your back yard.On another note I just got home from spending some time on the boat:dance:. My wife and I dropped of our 10 year old daughter at camp on Sunday, got the boat loaded up Sunday night, left at 4:30 Monday morning and didn't set foot on the ground again until 3 this afternoon. It was wonderful to shut off cell Phones and disappear out on LIS for 4 days.

That's great Rick! On August 1st., we'll all be pulling for you and your son. It's nice to get out on the boat for a few days and relax. My wife is bringing two of our little grandsons to the club this morning to meet me at the dock so that we can all go out on the river for a couple of hours. Hopefully, I can get a fish while trolling a lure and have one of them bring it in. A couple of weeks ago I boated a 32" Striper. I can only imagine what it would be like to have a child diagnose with cancer. I am very happy that he is doing well and that it appears that the survival experience has even added a sense of joy to all your families lives. I look forward to the day when most cancer is only a memory. I personally have two family members right now with lymphoma. One is my dad, who is not responding to treatment, the other is my neice, who is his grandaughter, who just started chemo. They both are treated at Univ. of Ala. in birmingham. We are very please with that hospital.
So you guys are roadbiking? I enjoy my "suger 2+". It is a Gary Fisher that i ride here close to home on Berry College. I will post a picture below. Mountain biking is about the most enjoyable thing i do. It remains to be seen if I will love sailing as much.
My tiller and forward hatch came last night while I was at work. I still will have to repaint, before i began to install the hatches. Ports (trimatrix) are on their way. I realize I got ahead of myself on the tiller. But I needed to at least see and feel it.
