I have just traded one of my sunfish boats for an older O'Day. It is 11ft.6in. has a 19.6ft. mast drop centerboard all glass .hull #2193 class no.474.I am restoring it to new cond. I would like any info I can get on it such as model name, year aprox.? I was told it is fast and very easy to tip over. I am adding weight to centerboard and ballast to floor interior. Any suggestions or anyone who has sailed one comments welcome. This boat has a open bow cat boat design with mast forward no room for jib. It has floatation rear &front. Thank you for ANY info. or experiance you may offer. Wayne Keiderling 207-273-2914 or Waynesunfish@yahoo.com

Wayne,
This boat could be an Interclub by O'Day. Check out this site: http://www.iheartodays.com/index.html

Wayne,

I had an O'day 12 that meets those specifications, but I'm not sure it had a low serial number like you described. See attached picture. (I remember when this was taken, sometime in 1984 in Pawtuxet Cove RI. No wind and I was use the tiller to walk the boat up to the slip.

If this is the boat you have, don't worry.....it's a blast and I can share my experiences. The one boat I've sold that I wish I still had....just a really safe, fun boat. (Actually what got me hooked on O'days).

Joe,

Yup, it was an O'Day 12. When I bought it, I actually wrote to O'day and got an owners manual and marketing materials back. Very good little boat. I had 4 or 5 little kids on the boat once (pretty close to shore) and I came about and they all ran to the wrong side....boat filled to the gunnels with water, she sailed right to shore.

Great boat to learn on.

It sounds like a nice little boat. I wonder if Wayne has one of these boats? A few of the guys at my club have small sailing prams and they have a lot of fun with them.

Joe, I actually spoke to Wayne last night. He checked it out on the link you provided and he confirmed that it was an Interclub.

You right, though. There's a lot of fun in having a sailing pram. I see the Dyer boats around here all the time and get tempted.

O'DAY 12 was built only in 1977 and 1978 model years, so Wayne's boat is too old (and too small) to be an O'DAY 12.
The 12 was basically the hull of a WIDGEON with a different deck and was rigged as a cat with an unstayed mast that seems like it would be almost as bendy as a Laser. The 12 had a wooden dagerboard instead of the Widgeon's fiberglass centerboard.

I'll add my vote to the idea of Wayne's boat being an INTERCLUB. I've attached a couple of pics from the 1968 O'DAY sales Brochure showing an INTERCLUB.
