nautical music

I have a stereo in my sailboat that has a slot for an SD card. I am in the process of putting mp3 files on it. (yes I know the quality isn't that great but I don't have super speakers on board so whats the diff and I get more tunes on a card this way). The head unit is AM/FM or MP3 not CD player.
I want nautical music and looking for suggestions. I have CSN 'Southern Cross' Masters and Commanders CD with Pirates of the Carb etc, the Mendelsohn's Herbredes and I'll download some Beachboy's Sloop John B.
So you see how my tastes run.

You can create decent quality MP3s, just get a bigger SD card. Then you can buy better speakers! :dance::dance:

My favorite boat album is "Good News from the Next World" by Simple Minds. The whole CD is excellent. Go buy and burn it onto mp3 files. Good stuff.

When The Ship Comes In - Bob Dylan

As Performed by the Clancy Brothers at the 30th Anniversary Dylan concert Madison Square Garden 1992. The whole double CD is great. Especially the "My Back Pages" with Dylan, McGuin, Neil Young, Clapton,et. al. Wow!

For everyday listening though I prefer Sirius satellite radio. I don't even keep CD's aboard.

I use Amazon.com mp3 downloads for the stuff I don't have on CD.

One of my favorites I play heading back in is "Back To the Island" by Leon Russell.

Great suggestion. I had never heard that tune and went to itunes to hear it. I am a big fan of the unusual.

This made me think of several tune by Jay Leonhart - Giant Flies, Goodbye Miami, and Doublecross, all which touch on the nautical.

My favorite is Michael Beans, he appears regularly at Marina Cay in the Rob White House in the BVI's. He is also an all around "good guy" supporting many charities. All his songs have to do with sailing. His CD's are available online. He also appears at the Annapolis Boat show. Normal disclaimers apply.

Oh, I donno... I see your "Victory at Sea" and raise you "Barrett's Privateers". Or if you're just floating around, Buddy's "Rock Yourself on the Ocean". Or Great Big Sea: "A boat like Gideon Brown", "French Perfume" (Although it's "he hit the rocks at 30 KNOTS", not "50 clicks" Sheesh!). and a dozen others. EDIT: forgot "Rant and Roar"!. You should look to the composers, John Williams wrote the music for many movies. There are so many very good composers and singers that an internet search is probably your best bet.

Ya, Mon! I bought a CD in a Carribean store in Vancouver: a band called Kassav playing what they called "Zook" music. I call it "gotta-dance" music...

Then there's the ones you wouldn't think of. On a quiet sail through the Gulf Islands, my Lady put on "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong and we just went "AAAAaaaahhhhhh!" Another time in the San Juans, Leonard Cohen and Pasty Cline seemed to "work"
