I have a new inflatable and want to register it and use my outboard. This is in Alabama. I would prefer to use a plastic strip and apply the numbers and sticker to the strip. Is this legal??? I doubt that the annual registration sticker will stick to the Decitex fabric.

Some states have banned using that plastic strip since it is not premanently afixed to the dingy AND that it may be easily stolen and put on a "hot" dingy. I tried the strips, but one of them broke easily in handling the dingy launch. I got a nice number set from Accent Graphic in Annapolis. The make a nice dingy set that includes squares to put your state sticker on. Made of something like rip-stop fabric with an adhesive, they are flexible and have stuck well for the three years I've had mine. A.G.: 410-268-6411. Maybe other graphics shops can make them, but try the BoatUS/graphics site also.
Use a Sharpy
Most numbers like to peal, particularly if you deflate the boat. At the suggestion of a number of cruisers (this forum?) I made a stencil and put them on with a Sharpy, very neatly. Piece of cake. I suppose they will fade in a years time; I will re-trace while the bottom paint on the big boat is drying, I imagine.
I stick mine to the wood transom fore and aft. So far the Alabama aqua-fuzz seem to be OK with that.
