Hi Tony,
I asked one of the guys in my yacht club yesterday, who owns a 1974 O'Day 27 about the keel. He said that the keel is part of the hull. In other words it's a poured lead keel. He also owns an O'Day 25 keel/centerboard which he just recently launched. He says that the 27 is definitely a faster boat than his 25, but his wife doesn't like it and I guess his OD 27 needs more work than he's willing to put into it. He bought it at a good price. It has an OMC Johnson Sail-drive engine that has some issues, so he installed a bracket on the stern and mounted an outboard long shaft 9.9 HP. He has the OD 27 up for sale right now and is asking $2500.
