I have two 7/16, single line reefing lines on my Selden rig.
P (luff) is 45' 6"
E (foot) is 19' 3"
which, by my calculations, is approx 214 sq ft of sail.
To reef, each line pulls down on a D-ring at the luff and a grommet at the leech. My problem is that the lines running through the D-rings create a great deal of friction. It's hard enough hoisting the mainsail as it is, and the reef lines make it harder. I want to attach blocks to each of the D-rings to eliminate much of the friction. I don't want to buy a block that will fail, but I also don't want to buy a block that's way better than it needs to be. That's overkill (to my wallet, that is).
How can I determine the appropriate block to buy?
