Mounting roller furler above anchor locker

I'm trying to figure out a good way to mount my new roller furler to my Hunter 23, with the forestay attachment in the anchor locker. I'd sure like to hear how anyone else has done this. I'm concerned that any rigid extension of the existing attachment point will add too much leverage and cause damage with any significant lateral stress.

I'm trying to figure out a good way to mount my new roller furler to my Hunter 23, with the forestay attachment in the anchor locker. I'd sure like to hear how anyone else has done this. My furler is connected with a pair of stainless steel plates to the existing attachment point which has worked well for the last 7 years.

I used an Alado furler on my 26.5 which does not require any changes to the forestay

I put a CDI on my 1985 H23, 3 years ago. In researching here (hunterowners.com) and elsewhere, there are basically 2 ways to do it.

1) add chain plates / SS tangs from the mounting point in the anchor locker and shorten the forestay. This makes rigging the mast easier, especially since I have big hands, always had a bitch of a time getting the forestay pins in but if forces a shorter furler foil and head sail tack. This was my choice.

2) cut the anchor locker hatch points. I thought this would be a way to get water into the anchor locker.

I've been very happy with the results, and would certainly do it the same way again.
