New owner of a Cat 34'. Typically have a couple of inches of water in the bildge. All tanks and seals have been checked. No problem with the stuffing box. Marina manager says not to worry about it. Its coming from the mast and is typical for a catalina. Is he correct ?

What kind of water is it, fresh or salt? Do you have a traditional stuffing box> Does it rain a lot where you live? Is your keel deck stepped or keel stepped. There is a spinnaker halyard exit plate at the top of the mast and the top of the mast is not sealed, so sure, water gets in. Marina manager is correct if water is fresh. My Cat 30 does the same and no amount of 'tinkering' has fixed it. Water seems to follow the wiring that comes down the mast. Will look at reconfiguring the mast base wiring and perhaps add 'weep' holes next time I'm on the hard.

Sometimes there is a downspout

On my Catalina 42 there is a small tube that comes from the base of the keel stepped mast to the bilge. I got tired of the rainwater sitting in the bottom of the bilge and extended the downspout into an old anti-freeze container that fits nicely in the bilge. It takes a long time for that one gallon container to fill up and it can be easily lifted out to empty when the need arises.
