My upper rudder post sleeve or nylon bushing (since I don't know what it is actually called?) is in need of replacement and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this part or know what it is called?

It appears to be about 2 1/2" in diameter and made of nylon or some hard plastic type of bushing? Hopefully my picture upload works but it is hard to tell by the picture as it is broken or split on one side and only one ear is left and the others broken off.

This is where the rudder post sticks up through the deck for the emergencey tiller to attach on my Yamaha Y36.

Here is a picture of where this part is located, the nylon sleeve fits around the rudder post at the top where it comes through the deck.

Thanks again if anyone has any ideas?

Calder calls that part the "support ring"... So, maybe thats the "official" term. It would typically hold the rudder up though in your case there could be a support below or it could be riding on the stuffing box. I'm not familiar with your boat. It is not a heavily loaded part and in a pinch you might get away with a section PVC pipe though that would be a little on the horrid side. If the stuffing box is currently holding up the rudder that's not a good thing and you should get a replacement ring...

Still available

Here is the response from Yamaha in regards to this part, anyone need one other than me? Maybe we could get a better price if we order a hundred or so:dance:

"The price of flange rudder with bush is USD 660.00.- without freight cost.
The delivery period is 3 month later after your firm order as the supplier
has no stock at this moment.

Best regards,
S.Suzuki OMDO/YMC"

Were you able to resolve this problem? I live in Japan and own a Yamaha 30. Maybe I can help.

Got the Bushing

I emailed my contact in Japan at Yamaha and for $101 US he was able to send me just the Delrin bushing however I need to have the outside of the bushing machined slightly which will create a lip on the outside. He offered to send me the entire replacement bushing with Stainless Steel collar for $660 US but it was to much for me at this time. I'm going to take the SS collar out as soon as the boat is out of the water next month and finish the machining of the outside of the new bushing.

His email address if you want to contact him is "suzukishige@yamaha-motor.co.jp" and his name is S.Suzuki

Hope this helps and will let you know how my modification/replacement goes
-Bob
