Learning the art of knot tieing is a source of many hours of pleasure for me. These are four of the many things I have done.

With my Beneteau being a more modern design, the only salty thing about it is the popcorn salt. But that's another thread.

Bob, Actually they are quite flat and smooth. The small ones are natural hemp and i wet those and pressed them. The larger red one ic cotton and is quite soft.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
The saltiest part of my boat is the salt stains left after being in rough seas! Maybe the sea shanties that I listen to add to the salt though!

Ross, that's beautiful work. I have four posters from Columbia Rope Company with all kinds of knots. I see your "Sailor's Rosette". How do you find the time to do this and all that good cooking! :D You got a lot of time on your hands.

Ross, I need to learn how to put that thingy on a watch to hold the end of the band. How'd you do that?

Ed, if you have Brian Toss' Rigger's Apprentice It is listed in the turks head section. It has to be done with a blunt needle called a bodkin.

I have always liked Ross's approach to life. He is a true traditionalist and keeps the art of many hand skills going. I, too, enjoy the knot thing. The photo is a bit out of focus but the bracelet I wove on my wrist and does not come off.

I bought some sta-set halyard rope yesterday. I am going to use a rope instead of steel cable on my latest fitness machine. The rope is 3/16". I need some kind of looped end. I just tied a bowline, it's the only knot I know. But it needs to be pretty like a spliced end. How long does it take to splice an end? Or where can I take the ropes and have someone splice them and how much does one usually charge for such a thing?

Someone with the proper tools can splice an eye in double braid in less than 30 minutes often in less than ten depending on their experience and when they last did one.

You guys are either really talented or you have way too much time on your hands!
Yes, let me be the first to say I am green with envy and jealousy! Nice work.

Higgs, try a knob covering from Ashley's . 58 crossings IIRC.
Edit to add: I use it for a pull string on a closet light.
