We simply have a bag of assorted bungs in a very handy to reach place, and if one seacock lets go, that's where we find the bungs. Since the tapered end of most of them is about the same size, the need to immediately find the "right" one is not an issue.
I've always wondered about this. How many times will every seacock let loose all at once? Why have a bung at each seacock?

I have all the adapter plates capped off except the engine. I have a ball valve and some rubber stoppers. Next trip to the boat I am hooking back up the air conditioning. I am going to see what it looks like when one lets loose. It will be a good broken seacock drill.

Just pull your knotmeter transducer out and replace it with the plug. The 15 seconds or so will fill your interior up to the seat cuchions and force you to hand bail to assist the bilge pump.
You may want to use the stopper in the through hull before taking off the cap. I prefer not to let much sea water in the boat as it will stink and provide a wonderful area for mildew to form since there is so much food in the sea water. Then you get to flush your bilge and all the other areas the seawater ran with fresh water and maybe a little bleach to kill all the stuff where you can't get. Not much you can do about the drip from the stuffing box but that section is a trough to keep it contained unless heeling aand motoring at the same time.

I think the main reason is so,, when you find the leak the plug is already there..

I usually only close my seacocks in the winter or if I am going to be away for an extended period. I know, I know, the boat could easily sink in a few hours if one of them let go.

Seacocks aren't the only thing that can fail
If a hose connection anywhere in a line that ends up at a thru-hull should fail, the boat is gonna take on water if that seacock is open.

It's rarely the seacock, it's, like Peggie says, the hose and its clamps that it's attached to.
I know some of you live in "better" parts of the country, but to me it's like leaving your door unlocked in, say, downtown Oakland, CA! Why would ya?
In our case, we have just a few: raw water, head inlet, & galley sink out. What's so hard to do three things? It keeps me vigilant in checking their condition, and looking around in places I rarely go.
It's kinda like anchoring and anchors. The newer type V 3.0 anchors are far superior to older anchors, yet people trust their boats and their lives on stuff that's now questionable and actually argue about it.
Your boat, your choice, but a $1.83 hose clamp is keeping your (+/-) $50K boat afloat.

A member of our yacht club had his boat sink in the slip after leaving the boat for about 30 minutes. It was due to a siphoning problem in his engine that I believe was caused by a faulty hose (and he had had the hoses replaced fairly recently).
