This new anchor is available on e-bay and just wondering what others think of the design? A friend uses a similar anchor on his power boat.

Looks like a "good ole Roloff" anchor!! Great anchors for 16' Lunds and Alumacraft fishing boats. Not good for 35' O'Days, pretty sure you know this already:)

You are kidding, right??

It amazes me that people will spend thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars on a boat and then try to skimp on basic necessities like ground tackle.

A 35' sailboat boat really should have a decent anchor like a Rocna 15kg or a Manson Supreme 35 lb. The anchors in question, with a decent rode of 30' of 5/16" G43 high-test chain and 270' 5/8" octo-plait nylon rode is less than $1000...

A 35 lb Manson Supreme—$380
A pre-spliced rode—30' 5/16 G43 chain with 270' octoplait nylon—$350
A load-rated 3/8" anchor shackle—$8

Getting a good night's sleep at anchor—Priceles...

My sister-in-law's boat (Catalina 22) came with that very same anchor style. What you cant see in the photo is that the flukes are very fat. This is where the weight comes from but I would think it would make it harder to penetrate the bottom surface. I'm not sure how heavy it is but I wouldn't trust it on a 22, let alone anything larger.

hey Maine Sail-

kind of brings up the old "rock-on-a-rope" conversation, doesn't it?;);)

cup

ps- that style of anchor is actually preferred by those that over-insure their boat...

Re: hey Maine Sail-

Those anchors are very effective when they are defined by tons. They will penetrate almost any bottom type. Just resting them on dirt will see them digging in. They benefit from being attached to large heavy chain. I think about one inch of chain size for every two tons of anchor or something like that. All chain rode of course

jibes,

I kind of like this anchor design . Looks like it will hold my boat without a problem just not sure what to do when (and if) I untie the dock lines and leave the slip. Do you think it will work OK then also ???

Sorry i couln't resist ! Maybe that is a "southern" anchor ? I know, I will ask the guy in slip E 24. He WILL know ! ! Take Care !!! Pete
