Peggie, is it true???

Daggone! Wouldn't you know!
I, too, have a WC Headmate. My searches caused me to call Thetford, the manufacturer, today. They told me they discontinued the model in January.
Did Thetford really discontinue the Head Mate?

I dunno yet...

It's news to me if they did. It's still shown on their website. I have a call in to the W-C national sales manager...I'll let you know what he says when I hear back from him.

It's true

Did Thetford really discontinue the Head Mate?
I just heard back from their national sales manager, who told me that Thetford did indeed discontinue not only the W-C Headmate, but also the W-C Newport Electric and the Skipper.

What this means is the end of the Wilcox-Crittenden brand name. They'll remain on the Thetford website while retailers still have inventory. Parts and rebuild kits will continue to be available for a while after that....I don't know how long. It used to be that almost all mfrs continued to support discontinued products for 10 years, but that's no longer true 'cuz very few things are made to last anywhere near that long any more...and it's a lot more profitable to make and sell complete replacements than it is to keep money tied up in a decent inventory of repair parts.

The Headmate has been replaced by the ComfortMate manual...the Newport by the ComfortMate Electric...you can see both on the Thetford website: http://www.thetford.com/HOME/PRODUCTS/PermanentToilets/tabid/76/Default.aspx They're both definitely very cool looking...as for quality, the jury will remain out until enough of 'em have been in use long enough to start seeing a pattern of owner problems or a lot of high praise. I don't know the price point for either one yet.

My desire was to replace "like for like". Figured all screw holes would be the same and the struggle in tight places would be minimal. Westmarine store assures me they are expecting to receive a headmate from a store in MA soon. We are in MD. I am not confident. I am looking for other places that may have a Headmate before I absolutely cannot find one. The Comfortmate has an entirely different base from the Headmate. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Peggie, thanks so much for the report, as disappointed as I am. Our HeadMates have served us well. I always felt they were between the cr*p J and Gs and the PHC in quality. I just did the like-for-like swaps, too.

It looks like the ComfortMate doesn't appear to have a base and that the two parts, bowl and pump, are separate.

I guess we'll start seeing them in stores near us soon. Hope the outflow is in the same place, the rest of the hoses are easy to move a bit.

Oh, no, finally :):):) I get to buy a PHC [we had a writeup recently that someone had successfully installed one in his C34 and loves it).

Thanks again for your followup.

Say What You Will About Jabsco...

.... I must like the brand a lot. I have two, My aft one gets used the most. I just installed what must be my fifth pump. Why, the bowl is even original. In fact, after ten years, close to a grand in expense and maybe a month hunched over and in it, I have become very fond of it. When it works, it does a nice job. I can't imagine why I'd change it now...

Just curious... how many years have you had them to need five pumps...

replacement head mate

Peggie,

I took delivery of a new Head Mate today. Whoo HOO!
The store that sent it down, didn't seem to be in any great hurry to get it here. Raphael and Rob at West Marine did a great job getting it for me. Other WM stores said none were available in the chain at all. Looking forward to swapping out the old one. I've only seen the old worn one and it was pretty weak in the pump and leaky around the pump handle. Anxious to see how a new one does! I wish I could offer Snuffy some advice but I'm brand new to this stuff. Good Luck, Snuffy!

Yes it fits

the Headmate bowl will fit the PHCLBA with no problem except the inlet hose is in a different location so you may have to add some hose that's what I just did.
Nick
I have a brand new Headmate complete pump still in the plastic bag for sale and will be advertising here in gear for sale.

Caution needed!!!

Only the smaller "standard" size bowls will fit the PHCLBA...you can't use the larger "household size" bowl..it's too wide for the base.

However, both the "standard" and "household" size bowls WILL fit the PHIILBA.
