Raymarine Autohelm 3000 Help

Hi there - I am outfitting an old boat with old gear - and am having trouble with an old Raymarine 3000 autohelm unit - it all seems to work fine, except that the cam and lever assembly cannot seem to hold the motor stiff and the frive belt goes slack all the time - anyone have any experience with this or a suggestino other than throw it overboard and buy a new 4000 unit ?

The belt my be to big or the cam assembly is shot. Raymarine has replacement
cam assemblies.

The belt's fine

get a new cam from Raymarine, I did. Buy a new belt anyway unless you have one, while you're at it.

Assuming you have the enclosed drive system mounted on the wheel, there's a cam offset adjustment screw at the rear of the assembly. It's covered with a small plug that has to be removed for access.

The ST3000 does not have those features, retyrd, only the 4000. The 3000 only has the lever in the cam below the wheel to the belt. Two completely different animals.

Stu - seems like you know it - it's a manual lever system with an offset that is supposed to tighten the belt by pulling the motor unit from the wheel - it just slips back and forth - any ideas ?

1. I do, I've had two or three of the them. Reason is the old non-LCD head died at 14 years old, and the second was a new replacement motor for the first unit. I think they were last best cockpit AP with a simple system that worked. Only one I can think of that'd match it is the CPT.

2. Yes, that's right. It happened to me, too.

3. Why not simply read our suggestions in replies #2 & #3 (above) from yesterday? I did just that, and RM was helpful. You just order the whole bottom black contraption, pull the long stainless pin on the old base and insert the new cam and lever.
