I've been putting off doing something about some unused space in my galley because of the expense of matching the teak joinerwork in the boat. I've discovered that, if you use clear plastic, it's cheap, quick, and doesn't look a bit out of place in the right circumstances.

Is that an Origo 3000? I was in a West in Florida last month and they had what I thought was a nice teak tray- new in the box- for 20 bucks. When I checked out, it rang up as a cover for a 3000. So, I offer to you or anyone at that price if interested. I only bought it to have the teak on hand for some unknown future project.

Why did you remove the oven and go with the Origo 4000?

I have an old Tasco propane stove/oven but the oven doesn't work and I've been thinking about this mod. Just wondering why you made this change. I like your idea but is the acrylic strong enough? Lexan would be a better choice.

I love the Origo stove. You'll sleep better of you get the propane off your boat and you can use the propane locker for something else.

I've found the alcohol from the hardware store perfectly acceptable. The expensive stuff in the marine store says "Super clean and low odor" but I think they might be talking about the lable instead of the contents

I could have gotten Lexan for 4 bucks more but it's softer and I figured the 3/8" acrylic would be strong enough and look better after a couple years. There is a 2 1/2" thick wooden rail on the edge of the shelf which will take most of the strain of stuff sliding inboard. This is probably going to the be the snack and bread locker. I don't expect to put cans and other heavy stuff in it.

If it does break I'll just replace it with Lexan, under 30 bucks (includes cutting to shape and rounding top edge) and 45 minutes work to drill and tap the holes for the hinges.

Is that an Origo 3000?

Yes, it is a 3000. I had to go back to the boat so I measured the removable counter top and it is 21 1/2 x 16 1/2". That's probably larger than the piece you bought since it fits the boat joinerwork rather than the stove. If I'm wrong, let me know.

Nice galley modification. I'll try to show this mod to my friends with an E 32.
What do you use the small tilt out compartment for that is under the sink? Somehow I always thought this was meant to be a 'trash bin' but it is next to the engine and hence can get warm.
Just curious.

It was a trash bin when I got the boat but I prefer quick and easy access to the engine cooing seacock and my raw water alarm so I took the bin parts off. It was too small to be useful anyway. I can also reach in now and turn the valve that switches my polishing system into an emergency fuel supply without having to remove the companionway steps.
