Assume you will be staying in Shoreline? I won't be down; sorry to miss you guys. BTW, there is a VERY nice Hooters just up Pine Avenue in walking distance. There is also a great Irish Pub with terrific food on Pine in the New Pike area. I know 'terrific food' and Irish Pub don't seem compatible, but this one works. Of course, Shoreline YC is friendly and nice, so you have a bunch of choices. Enjoy!

And don't forget the Yardhouse and the Mai Tai Bar! the Yardhouse (Shoreline Village) has about 200 different brands of beer and good food. The Mai Tai Bar is across the street and has a good selection of rum drinks. Me, I'll be in Two Harbors if the weather stays like this! Enjoy!

Rick, you are missing the great sunshine down here. Time to come down from your mountain home and thaw out!

Why go to Newport Beach

without hanging on the hook there? Have a great time. I'm laid up with a broken leg (skiing), wish I could join you, but it'd take a week to sail down.

To Stu... (off topic...)

"I'm laid up with a broken leg (skiing), wish I could join you, but it'd take a week to sail down."Stu, I moved to the SoCal mountains eight years ago. Used to ski a lot. Figures: I have used the boat more and skied not one day since moving. Duh.

I used to ski all the time too, but since boating I only get up locally once or twice a year. It looks like we may be going to Tahoe next month for my 60th bd. We are only doing a turn around in New Port because I only have a 3 day weekend. Its a long way from New Port to MDR for one day.
Where is a good place to have lunch in New Port? May try to catch the beginning of the game, so a sports bar would be great. Can you drop anchor there or are there guest slips.

There are 5 guest slips ($1 per foot per night) at the Harbor Patrol dock right next to the pumpout station. Maximum length is 40 feet, and there is water and a standard 30 amp shore power included in the price. Last I heard, they may be redoing the docks, so call and check. The mooring cans are only $5 a night, but there is no water taxi. Newport is a great place to spend a few nights on a can. Make sure you bring two very LONG lines if you want to stay. It is fore and aft mooring cans, and the cans are far apart depending on size of boat. But since you cleat off on either side of the boat ( think V), you need twice the length of line.

Both cans and the guest dock are fisrt come, first serve, but the Harbor Patrol told me that they have NEVER run out of cans.

Looks like we'll be spending both nights on Duane's old haunts at Alamitos. Shoeline is doing repairs and have no guest slips available.

We really just need an hour or two tie up in New Port on Sun., for lunch. Any ideas?
BTW if any of you want to join us go ahead and post here. I can pu messages here and receive email but for some reason I cannot transmit emails. Technology sheeesh.
Just got confirmation for endtie 22B at Alamitos for Sat and Sun nights.

Try calling the OC Harbor Patrol (949) 723-1002 I've found them to be very helpful in the past. There are a few restaurants that have guest docks, but they are mostly on the upper reaches of the harbor.
