I bet you can't believe the difference, and I bet the smell is much better now also. I bet that was really a big job and that you all are glad it is behind you. It makes the interior look brand new I am sure. Good job and thanks for sharing with us.

Looks excellent Tim! I think I may have to replace the sole in my Watkins 29 soon if it doesn't sell. Would be an interesting project and should be a bit easier than yours, the area is smaller.

Is that just regular 3/4 inch plywood or did you puchase it somewhere special? I have seen where people have taped the plywood before they stained it to give the impression that there are 2 different woods in the sole. Is that what you did or was the plywood a special purchase?

It is 3/4" teak and holly plywood. I bought it from a local hardwood dealer. I have since found Boulter plywood in Mass. which has sold me some really nice wood backed veneer for my interior project.

Beautiful job! Tim, could you describe the trim at the cutouts for the bilge covers? It looks like the trim (L-shaped?) is raised slightly above the floor, and if that is the case, are the bilge covers slightly raised as well? What supports the bilge covers? Does the trim serve that purpose?

Hi Scott. The trim on the bilge covers is flush. It is 3/4" thick by 1/2" wide. It is glued with epoxy and screwed with SS screws and bungs to cover. The trim is on both the sole and the cover. The covers are supported by a combination of stringers and solid teak rails attached to the bottom of the sole that overhang the opening to allow the covers to sit on.
