Anchor tie off?

I have a new to me 1985 Catalina 30. There is no cleat in the anchor locker and the rope is knotted at the free end. What is the typical way of securing the rope so it stays centered?

I have the same boat and there is nothing to keep it centered. It just lays in the slot after being cleated off to one side or the other. I have considered putting one in there just for the sake of knowing I won't loose the whole thing, if someone is up there "helping with the anchor".

Thanks! Is the end of your rope knotted or a loop? I'll have to check to see if my anchor rope is too thick to cleat properly without replacing the knot at the end with a loop.

Hold on a minute

First of all I NEVER let out all the rode!!!! I put a knot in the line about 10 feet from the end, 5 feet from the end and at the end. I always leave about 20 feet at least in the locker, and sometimes even run from cleat to cleat depending on the weather and such. I normally don't anchor in that deep of water to need 50 feet of chain and 175 feet of rode all out at once to the end of the line. We love to anchor out so we have a good ground tackle inventory. I like to sleep well at anchor and so does the admiral, therefore it was ok to spend the money.

one option is to cleat off to the first cleat, then take a second line from the other cleat around the anchor rode and back to the cleat. this will allow you to pull the road to the center and the boat will ride straighter. You can also use this method to drag the road back twords the aft of the boat to turn the boat from the wind and into the waves for a smoother night.

Some owners tie the free end around the mast, and then set the anchor using the deck cleats, just in case.
