rOnDAYvous site-selection poll

It's that time of year again -- time to start thinking about where to hold the 7th annual Northeast O'day Owners rOnDAYvous. :dance: Your suggestions and other input can be very useful in this regard, and I'm hoping some of you may already have a few ideas to share.

Here's what we ought to consider in making the site selection. Ideally, it should have shoreside sanitary facilities (toilets and showers), a place where a barbecue or picnic can be held, and perhaps space for other shoreside activities (either on-site or close by). The facility should be able to hold at least 20-25 boats, from Friday through Sunday. Either docks or moorings are OK (granted, some people have very definite preferences when it comes to this aspect of i)t.

The site should be somewhere in the Greater New York tri-state area. Thus far, the rOnDAYvous has been held in the following locations: Harlem YC (City Island), Liberty Landing Marina (Jersey City), Captain's Cove Seaport (Black Rock Harbor, CT), Raritan YC (Perth Amboy, NJ), Milford Landing Marina (Milford, CT), and Chelsea YC (Chelsea, NY). There's nothing whatsoever that precludes a return visit to any of these locations, but there are so many places to choose from that we haven't gone to yet.

Anyway, I'm asking for your recommendations, along with any compelling arguments why you think a particular place would be good for the 2009 rOnDAYvous. Please post your input as soon as possible, so we can reserve the site early.

I'd have to check on the approximate mileage from, say, the Battery, to get an idea of how far it is. Off the top of my head, though, I suspect a lot of rOnDAYvous regulars might have trouble making it to Newport. Not that their boats couldn't handle it (they're O'days, after all), but making the time for such a trip could be problematic.

Still, expanding the scope of rOnDAYvous territory is always a good idea, it seems to me. Something to think about, if not for this year, then a future gathering.

Wow! this thread died fast! Maybe everyone is as busy as we have been.
The Bartlett's still think Block Island would be real cool, but I expect it would also be expensive. The one marina that has a website (it's basically a resort) is from $3.75 to $4.00 a foot for our size boats. (Up to 40') There are two others in the Great Salt Pond that I will call if anyone is interested. I suspect though that Block is to far a trip for most though.
The suggestion of Oyster Bay or Huntington Bay sound good.
Actually most anywhere is good, because it means packing up the boat, traveling, spending time with good folks, and then traveling home. We would prefer somewhere that offers slips, because on a boat our size it is just easier, especially if it is a two to three day trip to get there.
Come on folks, get excited!!! February is here, the sun is getting higher, and we will be on the water before you know it!

By the way, if anyone has any good pictures of our boat in the fleet going up the Hudson last year, We sure would like copies.

I'm sure I have a bunch. I'll check what I have and send you the pick of the litter.

As for this year's location, I'm planning a scouting trip in about a week. Hopefully it will answer a few lingering questions. The goal is to identify and arrange a site before the end of February.

I draged the pictures from "my pictures" to the thread and they showed up on my screen. My son is in college for network and communications management and of course our house is now running on everything he is learning. It is causing alot of fun NOT.:cussing:
How do I properly post a picture?

Quick Pete I need some hope. I have a six foot pile of ice piled in front of the sailboat right now. It is hard to believe it will ever melt. :cry:

Thank for the pictures Scott. As much as I have enjoyed this Winter, once it settled in early in January, seeing the boat pictures has me thinking of Summer. We are all well here, although my wife and I are working way to many hours. I have been going 7 night a week in my "Winter Machine" seen in pictures my younger son took a couple of weeks ago. When he is in town he quite often keeps me company. This night he stopped to say he wanted to ride the Pan-Mass Challenge with me this year. Now that he has recovered from his year on chemo, and is back in shape, he will be riding as a cancer survivor, and that has me on top of the world.:dance:
