Hunter 430 Long Beach
I have a '95 Hunter 430 that unfortunately does not have external bow cleats. The only cleats in that area are in the anchor lazaret...where they are useless most of the time. I'd like to mount one on each side of the bow for the following reasons:

  • Ease of use for general docking
  • Reduce sailing at anchor
  • Reduce chafing of dock lines (currently routed through bowsprit causing significant chafing)
If anyone has done this and can share how it was done it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance...Ken

what happened to them?

Ken
the 430s all had bow cleats. Check out pictures on yachtworld.com to see where.

Check Out Mine

If I am correct in my recollection, the 430 mounts were similar to my 40.5's. You are welcome to check mine out at gangway FF, slip 54. The boat will be gone from the 9th through the 15th tho as we are off to Cat Harbor. Here is a cropped photo though.

i have a '95 430 that doesn't, yes i'm familiar with what a cleat looks like and which end of the boat is the bow. :) i have seen '96 430 and newer that have them but I'm yet to find a '95 that has them. calling hunter confirmed that it was not an option on the '95.

i was hoping someone with a '95 retrofitted theirs and could share their experience.

one suggestion

for lack of a more responsive answer, you might try contacting some of the 430 owners registered here and ask them directly by going to the Owners Directory tab and searching for 1995 vintage owners there.

might be worth a shot

yep, that's the picture that caught my attention. my '95 and all others i've seen do not have these. just looking for the 'how-to' and 'how-difficult' stuff.
for those '95 430 owners who may be following this thread, i heard from the owner of the pictured '95 430 with bow cleats. turns out he test sailed one new and saw that mooring/anchoring without bow deck cleats would be a problem so he had the factory add them before he agreed to purchase the boat. the 430 model years that followed had them as standard equipment.
