I have a 19 Oday and have trouble with too much weather helm. Any time there is a puff of air, she rounds totally into the wind, at times almost to a stall. The main is raked back and I'm wondering if that's the problem. Help!

too much rake
The mast's rake could be the problem. When you rake the mast the center of effort gets moved further aft wrt the foils. The effect varies quite a bit between boats though, and I've never sailed a 19. What type of wind? What sailplan are you flying? I'd try decreasing the rake a bit. However, light weatherhelm in moderate winds is desirable for safety reasons so try to balance the boat with that in mind.

try reducing the rake
try tightening the forestay and loosening the backstay to reduce the rake. You do want some weather helm, but not so much as you describe. For small boats like the 19, my ideal amount of weather helm will have the boat round up no matter what I do when the wind gets strong enough for a knock down. A designed-in safety feature.

I don't know what you know about sailing so, please understand I am starting basic and staying simple...
If you have full sail up at 10 knots, and you get hit with 15 knot gust, you will round up.
Here are three ways I would deal with that.
1st: sail close to the wind and allow the boat to round-up. note how far you round-up If you can follow the wind and the boat rounding up, if you carefully follow that razor edge, the boat will sail straight with no helm and small movements will keep you in the wind. That has taken me about 4 years on my boat to learn and I only get right about 90% of the time.
2nd: if the 1st idea doesn't work, and you are out of controll more than in, you have too much sail up. reef something. All boats are different in what you reef first.
3rd: if you are only out of control once in a while and the 1st idea didn't work, release the main and follow the gut by constant trimming of the main, trying to keep the headway and in control at the helm.
This is what I do, it works for me. Doesn't mean it is what will work for you but I hope one of these will.

on the most forward position and got what you describe. To much helm ! That resistance (weather helm
) slows you down as well as making life tiresome
