Anchorages and hiking trails.

We are planning another cruise this summer / fall and prefer to anchor as much as possible. We are not really marina type folk and eat almost exclusively from provisions cooked in our galley. That said, we do like to go to shore and do easy to moderate hiking. We are looking for more suggestions for anchorages with access to hiking trails. We know and use the common ones such as Sucia, Stuart, Spencer Spit, etc.
My wife is still recovering from several heart stints, so we avoid the steep stuff. a good example of what we are looking for is the nice trail from Watmough Bay down around the southern tip of Lopez Is. Our plans include the San Juan, Vancouver Golf Islands.

I'm sorry but we don't have any Golf Islands here but we do have some spectacular Gulf Islands so don't miss out on those.

If by any chance you do get across over to the mainland end of things you MUST drop your anchor in a beautiful place called Port Graves. I'm too lazy to tell you exactly where it is so you'll have to look it up yourself. On Gambier Island. Huge anchorage IMO and the whole thing is around 40 - 50 ft. deep with light mud coverage which holds like crazy glue. You can dinghy in and amble through the religious mind altering camp and than wander to your heart's content. Or make like a large paint blister with a good book and spend endless hours watching the scenery drift by as you slowly sail at anchor :

Don't let anyone else know about this place or it will be over run. On the busiest day of summer the place is still pretty much empty.

PS : Please let me know if you're coming and we will meet you over there in Port Graves. It's four hours away from our marina.

Roche Harbor has several nice hikes. The statue park among them.
