hello all.
I am looking to replace my water tank water tank vent.
but I must admit I am having a hard time finding one, originally our boat had a simple one without a screen, the only ones I find with screens are stainless ones made for fuel tanks, I think that would be acceptable, what do you all think?
I am in ther process of replacing both water and holding tank, I just want to be certain everything will be up to “code” so we won’t have any issues in the near and not so near future.
thank you all

Many Catalinas from 90's onward used same vents for water and fuel tanks, a different vent was used for holding tanks.

I went with an in-line strainer. Worked great. It was simpler than changing the fitting, and I had it in the might-need bin. I cleaned it once per year, usually with a few bugs inside.

Just an alternative.

But you still need the deck connection, right? The strainer is just the "screen" part of that moved to a different place?

I never knew there were differences between fuel and water tank vents. All boats I've had used the same vent type for both.

There is no "rule" that a water tank vent needs to go through the hull. It can go to the bilge. It can go into the sink. I've seen both. The nice thing about through the hull is that if you overfill the tank it goes out. The bad thing is that water can come in.

Mine connected through the hull to a mushroom. Factory, there was no strainer. Not required on boats, but is required on RVs etc.

I also did a vent loop, the hose goes up from the vent to just under the deck and then down to the tank to help stop dirt from getting in.
