What are these used for?

I see you have a Beneteau, so I presume you have a Volvo prop shaft seal. The orange sleeve is used when installing the seal to protect the rubber seal lips as it goes over the threaded end of the shaft. After the seal is installed the sleeve gets pulled out. You should be able to safely discard it - the next time you get a new seal it’ll come with a new sleeve.

Looks like the disposable cap they put on the positive terminal of a new battery.
I don’t think those usually have the split though. Sometimes they have perforations on the same side as the tag to be able to pull them off, but not like the picture shows.

It is definitely a protection for installing a new lip seal on a shaft. Can't tell what seal/shaft it would be, but that Volvo suggestion seems spot on. We had these with our Tides Marine rudder shaft bearings.

Post protectors are usually red and black. This is orange. Have no scale reference. I'll go along with seal protector, but my LasDrop was different.

I don't think the LasDrop uses a lip seal? These types of protectors are specific for inserting shafts into lip seals (or vice versa) without inverting or tearing the seal lip.

@Davidasailor26 is absolutely correct; that’s definitely a Volvo drip less shaft seal lip protector to prevent damage to the internal lips on the seal as it is being slid over the shaft during installation. Good idea to hold onto it in the event that you need to remove the seal in the future. Seems that not too long ago someone was looking for a protector because he had to remove his seal during a shaft replacement. Put in your boat parts bin, never know when you might need it. I saved my old seal, clamp, & protector to have a spare….just in case.

All seems correct but it's curious that the part number (828252) stamped on the protector does not match any currently-listed Volvo kit numbers that I found. So heed the advice to keep it in case of discontinuance of your version, etc.

You still have to be careful not to damage the rotor on the GenII
