Shelf liner under cabin sole?

I'm very pleased with the finish on my old teak & holly floors but my attempt to cure the old stains wasn't entirely successful. Regardless, the floor will look like a pretty decent restoration of old flooring.

The sole used to creak a bit when walking over it so I'm thinking about installing shelf liner over the floor pan underneath the teak & holly ply. It is rubberized and thin enough that it shouldn't affect the height. I'm hoping the cushioning will eliminate the creaks. Any thoughts?

That's what I was going to say. Did you try oxalic acid on the stains?
I worked on it quite a bit with oxalic acid without any beneficial results. I was a bit disappointed. I also found that when I heated the varnish with a heat gun, it stained a few locations at the edges of heated areas after scraping the varnish off. I could not entirely remove stains with oxalic acid or by sanding. I'm sure my technique was not perfect. It may take a lot of practice and skill to get it just right. I used as much care as practical while moving along and not getting bogged down. As I've said, my standard is not the highest and I didn't expect a perfect restoration project. It's good enough, the floor is sound and the surface is bright and shiny while the underlying wood just looks a little used.

Our cabin sole took three applications of oxalic acid but it did come out much improved. Does the shelf liner work to remove the squeak?

How about the underlayment for plank flooring? If it is closed cell stuff and does not absorb moisture it would seem ideal

That's actually a great idea. I was going to suggest LDPE sheeting or UHMW tape, but that stuff would probably work better and it's easy to work with. Might be a bit slippery? I don't know if the floor boards are able to shift in their space, so might not be a concern.

Also, that underlayment will give you a little insulation under-foot and maybe a tiny bit of sound dampening.
