Was just on the USCG National Vessel Documentation Center website ( https://www.dco.uscg.mil/Our-Organi...s-DCO-D/National-Vessel-Documentation-Center/ ) where the first page notes that due to the partial government shutdown they have not been sending out renewal notices. ( Mine usually comes in January.) They suggest renewing online to avoid lapses in your registration. Make sure you use the uscg.mil site so you don't get scammed and overcharged! $26/year is the current rate.

The notice is for commercial documentation.
The recreational documentation is not effected according to the notice at the bottom of the same page.

Maybe so, but I have not received any renewal notice for my recreational documentation. Have you gotten yours?
The posting on the site says: "Requests regarding recreational endorsements/activities will continue to be processed." So... if you request a recreational certificate they will process it. It does not say that they will continue to send out renewal notices, and with our Document expiring in less than two weeks it did not seem wise to wait and see. There are additional fees for reinstating lapsed Documentation. Online renewal was quick & simple. They take credit cards.

No sign of ours. Doc number on the boat. Need that to renew online.

I haven't received a renewal notice. Went online to renew and discovered I was already over 30 days expired. When we bought the boat about 2 years ago, the broker did the documentation and, to be honest, I'm not sure how long it is registered for. Apparently just one year. So, it's a good thing I didn't go to Canada last summer. I was able to reactivate online, though the process didn't leave me feeling confident it will be processed correctly.

FWIW, I recall that a friend with a documented sailboat told me last year that he thought that he was required, going forward, to know when it was due and to take action on his own. i.e. there was no auto-generated notice. Being only state-registered, I have no first hand knowledge, tho.

I did get my renewal notice last month as well. Same for me ... I need to get on it!
Correction ... The reminder I got was from the scam site identified by nvdcrenewal.us! I did manage to navigate correctly to the uscg.mil site and found notices that they are not monitoring the web page due to shutdown. But you can enter the EStorefront page to renew online, which I did. I got an e-mail confirmation saying that my submission is now being processed. I paid for the 5-year extension at $130.

I went to the scam site at first and their fee is $375. I want to change my boat name and hailing port on my documentation but I could not access an application form to do this even though there is a tab for it. I figure that I will first renew and then make changes. I didn't want to screw up the renewal by confusing the name and port.

It's my understanding you can't update name, port or other information using the online portal. At least that was the case last time I renewed.

the online portal is for RENEWALS only... changes require a form download, completion and snail mail... it is a government entity...

When I click on the estorefront link on the NVDC site it says it is unavailable. My documentation is still got for a couple of months, but how long will DHS be shut down?

Very odd. I just got in a few minutes ago (before posting the link) by clicking on the link in my history. So I posted the link and now when I try to open I get the same login error shown above in Post 16. I was questioning 2 days ago whether or not the link actually worked when I renewed and I did get an e-mail that my submission was being processed. I quess I will find out in due time!

I found this on the main website.

Government Shutdown - Tuesday, February 17, 2026
Due to the federal funding hiatus, applications for documentation and other services related to commercial operations are being held until the government re-opens. To avoid risk of CODs expiring/additional fees being incurred, vessel owners are encouraged to renew via eStorefront, PRIOR to COD expiration date.
Requests related to recreational endorsements/activities will continue to be processed.
