I recently purchased a 1988 Hunter 33.5 and am performing some off-season maintenance. I have a slab reefing / two reef points configuration with both reef lines currently terminating at the mast. My plan is to replace these reefing lines and extend them through a deck-organizer and jammers to the cockpit. However, after inspecting my boom I'm unable to locate any existing hardware that serves to secure the bitter end of the reef lines when a reef is engaged. What am I missing?

A bowline? Seriously, some photos might help us help you. On my boat, I tie bowlines around the boom to create the new clew when a reef is taken.

A search phrase like "slab reefing diagram" can open a collage of images demonstrating different ways to establish your reefing lines on your boat.
This one demonstrated a Bowline attaching the reef line to the boom, though the reef cringle, then down to a sheave at the end of the boom, and back through the boom to the mast.

Or you can install an "eyestrap" on the boom rather than tying the reef lines off with bowline knots. A simple overhand knot is all that is needed. Let the illustration above be your location guide.
