Has anyone else seen this video?
It turns out the reasons to avoid these boats is their uninsurability. I don't know the producers of the video but they are quite sure of their declarations. I wonder what the basis of that surety is? What is their expertise?

This site has a number of doom and gloom videos about boating and sailing. The information is generally good to know, it's the presentation that is suspect, designed to elicit fear. The voice over sounds AI generated and does not always match the videos. According to the info on the landing page, the channel hails from Slovenia. The videos are all click bait to earn ad revenue.

Seems like classic AI manure. True, some of these boats are "uninsurable" in certain areas.. But when a video like this has pictures that don't match the subject matter in the discussion, I get immediately turned off.. Your mileage may vary..

Strange.

My insurance does not cover my boat for hull rot, deck rot, or blisters. These are seen as life problems of the boat. Simply put, take care of your boat. Only your insurance company can decide if they are willing to insure your boat.

Seeing as how this ad has overtones of AI, like most other things tainted with AI, I would suggest consigning it to the circular filing cabinet.

Another good reason for completely banning EVERYTHING infected by AI from this site.

Some valid points, but many pertain to almost every boat. Picking out ten specific designs seems contrived and overblown.

Regarding the Whitney, couldn’t you clean the fuel tank and fill it with something, maybe sand, and put a new fuel tank some where else?

Fixing the problem in a different way would undermine the video's narrative of absolutes and lead to questioning its validity, so one would never want to do anything like that. It would be like finding a balsa-cored boat that didn't have delaminations and bad moisture readings: totally unacceptable because the end is near!!

Made me wonder. Pacific Seacraft has many of their boats reaching 40 years old. They still fetch a 6 figure price tag. Will they too be branded uninsurable.

The trouble maybe the cost of insuring the boat may be beyond what an owner is willing to pay.

A new twist on planned obsolescence. :yikes:

The 40-year rule is a very real problem, and for many mainstream insurers, that window is now compressing closer to 30 or 35.

There seem to be tons of these AI generated videos spreading doom into the sailing space and I've wondered what is the point? Is there some monetization attached with someone starting the videos (because surely most of these are so terribly produced that no one watches more than a a minute or two)?
An angle I've noticed is the "used sailboat market crash", predicated on the notion that the pandemic created a sellers market and now the boats are all up for sale again and not moving. I mean, is that even true? I look at boat porn a lot and I'm seeing boats I'd buy (38 ft coastal cruisers less than 20 years old) with asking prices at what seem like 20%-40% more than pre-pandemic. How is that a buyers' market?

If you want to sell something connect it to sex or fear. The doom and gloom sailing videos are likely attempts to monetize the videos.
