Hola, soy nuevo en el foro. escribo desde España.
Tengo un Hunter 38.6 desde hace 3 años, me vendría bien instalar una hélice de proa.
¿Alguien tiene este modelo y la tiene instalada? no encuentro planos ni medidas del astillero donde pueda tener una guía para instalarla con garantías.
También si alguien me quiere dar su opinión al respecto, estaría agradecido.
Al igual si alguien necesita algo de España, aquí estoy !!!

Bow Thruster

Hello, I am new to the forum. I am writing from Spain. I have a Hunter 38.6 for 3 years now, and I would benefit from installing a bow thruster. Does anyone have this model and has it installed? I can't find any plans or measurements from the shipyard that could guide me to install it with guarantees. Also, if anyone wants to give their opinion on the matter, I would be grateful. Likewise, if anyone needs something from Spain, I am here!!! Thank you in advance, greetings to everyone.:beer::beer:

I’ve only docked two boats with bow- thrusters so this is a narrow opinion.
Docking my neighbours Beneteau 50 I made a complete mess out of docking, backed out and came back in not using the thruster. Worked fine so never used it again.
Delivered my friends 37 trawler for a haulout and had to dock backed in to a very narrow slip. Would have been impossible (for me) without the bow thrusters.
Opinion is that sailboats don’t benefit from thrusters as much as power boats and I wouldn’t bother installing one.

On our 37’ boat docked in a slip off a narrow fairway the thruster is very useful. In the lightest wind we can leave or return without it, but most days I need it to make the turn between the fairway and slip. I can’t help with any of the particulars for installation on that model though.

Bien venido al foro. Estamos primariamente angloparlantes. De que año es tu barco? De añadir un hélice de proa o no por un barco de este eslora es una decisión del propietario. En general la estructura necesaria por instalar esta maquinaria será establecido por cada barco individual. Depende del hélice específico y la estructura del barco. La información que buscas no creo que existe.

Welcome to the forum. Here we are mainly English speaking. What year is your boat? To add a bow thruster on a boat this length or not is really the owners decision. In general, the structure needed for this kind of installation would be established for each individual boat. It would depend upon the specific bow thruster and structure of the specific boat. The information you are looking for I don't believe exists.

A 38ft boat, generally backing in for a Mediterranean Mooring Stern Tie, makes the idea of a thruster tempting.

I docked on a friend's 42-foot Catalina with a bow thruster. The bow thruster was interesting and a skill one needs to practice.

We docked the same boat just as easily using a stern and a mid-spring line. The latter requires a lot less hardware than the thruster.

Here is a good video demonstrating the Stern Tie line.


I use the Mid-Spring when backing into a slip. It is just a reversal of the stern bridle technique.
