OpenCPN not opening

I've had Open CPN on my MacBook Air for years. The IOS is Sequoia 15.5 currently. All of a sudden OpenCPN doesn't open. The message box says something about a stale app and a bunch of undecipherable numbers and letters. I am the original analog man and I don't understand what all that means.
Anyway, I deleted the files and re-downloaded a new version of OpenCPN but Safari refuses to open it. I think because it isn't registered. I then tried it with Duck... and it was the same thing.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it possible Apple is blocking it from opening and installing?

Is this the message you are getting?

Apple could not verify “OpenCPN_5.10.2-universal+11049.12e5712b6-14.pkg” is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy.
This means the Mac OS does not recognize the developer and will not open the app. It can be over ridden by a setting in the System to allow apps not downloaded from the App Store to be opened and there is key combination that will override the block. (And I can't remember it now.) This is part of Apple's security measures to prevent the installation of malware. Any app downloaded from the App store has been thoroughly vetted and virus/malware free.

Control-click on the app installation file and select "open". This over-rides Apple's protection.

Post #4: Yes. I don't use it that often. No plug ins. Mostly I use it to follow cruises posted on this forum.
Post # 3: I tried that. Same message.
I'll have to re-try and take a screen shot, I guess.

They have updated the version of OpenCPN.

Apparently that doesn't work any more.

Open System Settings. Scroll down to Privacy and Security, click on that. At the bottom of the page, under security, select App Store and Known Developers. Beneath that you should see the OpenCPN package. Click on that. You should get a window asking for permission to open the app with a warning. Go ahead and provide the system password and it should open.

Thank you all for your instructions. The new version is up and running on my MacBook Air. It appears that my charts are available without much ado.
Maybe I'll try to put it on my phone too.

Thanks for posting this thread! I have wondered what app I might try to replace my long-gone-but-loved 'GPSMacX' that I used to use for deliveries on our ancient G4 Mac laptop. Great to know that OpenCPN may do the trick.
:)
(Happily computing on a MacBookPro M1Max, for several years now. It was a super nice upgrade from our former Intel MacBook.)
