The plan for Sun Gypsy this year is to circumnavigate Vancouver Island. We left our home on Saturna Island on the 20th of June and are slowly making our way North for a counter clockwise trip. So far the winds have been unusually from the SE so we have been sailing on a broad reach or downwind. Very relaxing.IMG_0497.jpeg Saturna Island IMG_0496.jpeg loading the last supplies
The first stop was Montague and a meet up with friends.

Michael. We have made 2 attempts this season to sail to the Broughtons and maybe beyond since the end of May. And 2 times we have returned to deal with some mechanical issues. Hopefully we will soon let go the lines for a third try and make our way to our destination. I will keep an eye of your progression and if convenient to both we may have and opportunity to throw one or two back in the same cockpit.

IMG_0512.jpegThe next morning we let the rain pass and the wind fill in a bit. Pulled the anchor around noon and set the Genny for another down wind day to North Cove on Thetis Island.

The next morning we were off to Nanaimo, timing Dodd Narrows to hit an hour before slack. The wind was still out of the SE but lighter so we started drifting North about 11am to hit Dodd at 2pm. Then motored to Nanaimo.
IMG_0511.jpeg IMG_0512.jpeg We came through Dodd with 15 or 20 other boats and we got to the narrow harbour entrance as this big guy decided to leave.

After spending the night visited family in Nanaimo and seeing that WG was open to transit we decided to sail to Jedediah Island Marine Park . We had a great sail, wind was 6 to 14 knots on a broad reach and we made the 23 miles in just under 4 hrs.

Tonight we are in Comox and back in communication with the world.

IMG_0524.jpeg The trip so far. Comox is pretty busy for a small town.
