I'm looking to replace the 9.9 Yamaha on my H260. Suggestions? Standard shaft or long shaft?

Any suggestions on what brand is best? I am leanig towards getting a new Yamaha, but would Mercury, Tohatsu, Honda, be a better choice?

All good choices. Mercury in that size is made by Tohatsu. There might be minor feature differences.
I bought a new Yamaha 6 HP in 2019. Wasn't as smooth as I hoped but that might be because at 6 HP it is a 1 cyl. Also it didn't always start right away. Needed to get the choke right. My friend had a 2016 and it was the same. I used it on a H260 and it wasn't powerful enough to plane. I sold this dingy and outboard with the Sailboat.
In 2023 I bought a new Tohatsu, it is only a 3.5 HP as I wanted something light. I use it on a 8' Oxxean and it works fine, pushes it around at 4 to 5 KTS. All I need for a tender. I really like the Tohatsu, built well, runs smooth and usually starts on the first pull.
I really think with the brands you are considering it comes down to which outboard appeals to you. The dealer network is important as well. For myself having good product support is important even though I do a lot DIY.

Yamaha is popular in my area and they do have a good dealer.
