I second not supporting corruption and billionaires too.
I use a cheap older icon 400 ssb and garmin inreach (but it costs). We also used a receiver (Sony) thing to simply DL the files to a laptop. There's a few that work great w basic cables.
It's been awhile but as I recall we downloaded the weather files directly into openCPN (grib?). I think we.needed a tool back then but it probably works fine now. I had two ssb receivers I used one was a tiny "pocket" Tascam. Cheap easy and simpler than the icom SSB an associated counterpoise and backstay.
The toughest part was finding the mic headphone splitter for the radios.to the laptop, really. Get a few when you do.
