First post for me here. I am reaching out to this forum hoping to get a pointer to the transmission spare parts I am looking for.
I am in the process of rebuilding a Yanmar 2QM20 For my 31’ C&N
These motors were fitted with Kanzaki YP-7M ( rounded bell housing ,tall lever port side) ,YP-10M and KBW10A transmissions.
For my YP-7M transmission I need the following:
1) Reverse gear (Yanmar part # 120220 83200) Photo 1
2) Idler gear. (Yanmar part # 124770-83030) Photo 2
These parts are no longer available through Yanmar dealer.
This transmission has the reputation of being bulletproof and often outlives the motor.
Some where in a workshop or garden shed there is a YP-7M transmission hiding waiting for a new purpose In life!
My quest is to find these parts to complete my rebuild.
If you know where a Kanzaki YP-7M transmission is hiding ,please give me a shout !

What is wrong with those gears? Photos do not show any gear problem. FYI gears from other Kanzakis are likely the same. If it is the disc - any clutch repair company can renew the friction surface.

Hello Charles, both gears have an axial run-out of 7 thou. This damage was probably caused when the bell housing was installed without the idler gear and reverse gear meshing. One can see the markings on the gear teeth. So it was a point load that caused the damage and I am considering putting the gear on a press and trying to reverse the damage… worst that could happen is the gear cracks! Any suggestions?

A really good machine shop could get the run-out to a more reasonable number.. I have watched some excellent machinists do exactly that but machinists like that are few and far between.

Standard machine shop stuff. Plenty of talent in BC. Nanimo? If so, send Kloudie some Nanimo Bars.

Finding the machine shop with the right people is the issue. Any suggestions? The Nanaimo Bar(s) is the least of my concerns…. ;))))

Welcome @Runningfix to the SBO resource for sailors.
I sent a text to my mechanic. He enjoys salvage discoveries. If he finds something down here I'll let you know.

It may be a bit of a long shot, but give the folks at WestbyNorth a call. They manufacture excellent props up in BC. Contact West by North Enterprises - West By North
They may be able to suggest a nearby machine shop.

Down here, beneath the 49th the folks at Harbor Marine have an excellent transmission shop. They rebuilt my 1970's V-Drive.
I know. Not Canadian and may be more expensive. But good reliable technicians.

@Runningfix I would give Ben Gartside in Sidney a call or better yet drop by and talk to him personally. Just a jewel of a man. You won't find a better diesel mechanic in the area. He is also a director at the Quadrant Marine Institute. If Ben cannot do it himself he will definitely know of a machinist that can do the job. He may even have the parts on hand that you need.
