Hunter Passage 42 Puerto Villarta
Hey Guys, we just bought a 1992 Hunter Passage 42 in Puerto Villarta and currently live in AZ. We are planning to move to PV in Jan to do an osmosis repair and replace the thru hulls below the water line. We are trying to acquire as many parts and tools as we can prior to our move and would like to pick up Marelon Thru Hulls while we are still in the states. Unfortunately, I am not able to get to the boat to measure and I am not having any luck finding the factory specs on the Thru Hulls below the water line on the 1992 Passage 42. I do understand that these may have been modified by previous owners but am wondering if anyone can tell me the count and diameter of the thru hulls below the water line on this vessel as they would have come from the factory.

Welcome to the forum.
I do not have a Passage 42.
You can probably guess that a previous opened boat that is 32 years old could have any number of thru hulls other than the ones placed in the boat when first commissioned.

If you know the type of systems on YOUR boat you can come close to guessing the number and size of the thru hull.
  • 1 1/2” for dumping sewage water from the holding tanks is common.
  • Water intake for engines are often 3/4 to 1”
  • Water intake for hand pumps 1/2”
  • Drains for sinks 3/4 to 1”
Note if you can return your unused purchases for refund, then buying a couple more than you need might be a solution.
It is always easier to buy a 1” to replace a 3/4” through hull. You just cut a larger hole over the smaller hole. Easy Peasy.

You might examine the boat manual you can find here on the site. Hunter has done a good job of providing plumbing diagrams in their manuals. These could help you with ones originally installed.

Good luck and congrats on your new to you boat.

Does your P42 have a Generator, heat pumps, etc.? If so, like our 1991, it has the following below the waterline through hulls, one for each:
Main engine
Genset
galley sink
maceratore pump
forward head
aft head
heat pump
cockpit drains (2)

I do not know the sizes offhand; they vary.

This is exactly the information I was hoping for thank you both! We do have a generator but no heaters that I know of besides the water heater. I can definitely use this information to piece together an initial order before we head down to PV. Thank you both!!

We just did most of the thruhulls on our 42p. let me try and find the list.

The only catch is that I ordered 2 of the wrong size on the thruhulls so i drilled the hole larger and use adapters. I think I did this on the engine intake and one of the toilet inlets. Anyway, let me dig up the list. we went with Gemlux / TruDesign and so far are very happy with the quality.

Just a clarification, when they say heat pump, they mean Airconditioner / heater. Most marine ACs are "heat pumps" meaning they move heat and cold around, thus the pump. They can be reversed to provide both AC and heat.

Hunter Passage 42 MD
Forward Head Intake 0.75
Aft Head Intake 0.75
Engine 1" (I ordered 1.25), But I think this is the one that was supposed to be 1" - let me confirm
Port Cockpit Drain 1.5
Stbd Cockpit Drain 1.5
Macerator 1"
AC Water Intake .75
Generator Intake 0.5 - Let me confirm, I think its supposed to be 0.75 or 5/8
Galley Sink 1.5
Forward Sink 1.5 (Above the WL)
Aft Sink 1.5 (Above the WL)

I ordered the appropriate load bearing collars. Gemlux should have a 10% off your first order over 100 if you signup for the mailing list. Signup for it.

In the engine compartment, I ended up grinding / sanding down to the glass and made a semi flat mounting ring for each collar. I dry fit, marked the load bearing collar on the exposed glass. Then build it up with new glass so it was flat, and not using wood and the base.

Here is my order.

Don't forget, you'll need a matching thru-hull, collar, valve, and fitting from valve to hose for each one you want to replace.

Thanks @n0where this is what we need to get our order together! I greatly appreciate it, let me know if you are able to confirm the Engine, and Generator intake diameter. Happy Holidays!
