Time to pull out the O'Day 25. This is my first season with it so I need to purchase stands. Does anyone have advice on what size stands to buy. There is a 3' draft, so I'm thinking that with the boat sitting on about a foot of wood blocks, the 4' stands would be sufficient, but any insight would be great.

Thanks!

Are you storing it at home? Do you have a trailer?

My marina stores my boat, and they provide the stands asbpart of the storage fee.

If you have a trailer, why not leave it on the trailer?

I have an S2 7.3 (24ft) that draws 4ft and I use 4ft stands.

Brownell stands are the best. My old yard used another brand of stands and ~$15K later the boat was as good as new after the stands came out from under the boat. Don't settle for less.

There's probably a bit of room for error in height as you can always put more wood under the keel

@Tally Ho Have you driven around the other side of your marina lately? There's a boat that fell over. It's quite a sight. I'll send you a pic if you didn't see it

The top to the stand is on an Acme screw and have about 12-16" of adjustment. So you only have to be close. Ideally you'll have most of the screw down in the stand. Remember the stands are there to keep the boat from falling over, the weight of the boat is on the keel. The keel should be blocked in 2 places, if only one block is used bad things can happen.

Note, these are not Brownell Stands. My boat is the one with the cover still intact.[/QUOTE]

Oh, I have seen it. That guy used to be my slipmate (1 season) a few years ago. Nice family, young kids. Went out a few times (and he came out on TallyHo with me one time). The. Didn’t comeback. Boat has been on the hard for a couple of years. I understand that the block that the keel was sitting on was rotted and gave way.

We had one blow over in a wind storm last year and broke the keel. That boat is still sitting on a cradle sans the mast that was broken. I assume insurance things take a loooooooonnnnnnnngggggg time :(

After my boat was put on stands, and I was putting the cover on, I noticed this stand…

Sent photos to the marina and suggested that the needed to add another set of stands or replace that one.
I will be back there this coming week and will check to see if they replaced it.

Yes. The boatyard just got back to me and said that they are providing the stands.

@Tally Ho Is this the one you're referring to?
I was at the marina yesterday, and that boat is gone. Didn’t notice it in the bone yard where 2 other scrap boats await their destruction…so don’t know where it went. It looked like the hull and mast were pretty much intact.

How would they pick that up?
I don’t know how they did it…the yard has a travel lift and a big forklift ( for stacking power boats in the storage building). They could also have cut it up and hauled it away.
