What is this thing?

Sorry for the stupid post, but this thing is on my boat, behind the electrical panel, and I always forget to look at it closely when I'm there. It is probably a component of the Heart Interface Freedom 10 system, but I have never seen an image of it or mention of it in their manuals.

Does anyone know what it is, and what it does? What could all of those little wires at the bottom go to?

If you move th ribbon cable in the left side of the photo, you will be able to see the mfg…something Equipment Company…

I also assume some sort of part of the battery monitor….the far right shows a label saying Amp-Hour Monitor terminal.

Maybe I restated the obvious…

Thanks Greg. Yea, I'm pretty certain it's part of the Freedom 10 Inverter/Charger system, but I just can't find any documentation on it.

Not necessarily, jviss. Why? You could have a Freedom 10 I/C without any battery monitor system. Or you could have added a Link 2000 to control the F10 I/C On and OFF inverter and charger functions and monitor battery banks. Or you could have your F10 I/C and an Ample battery monitor. See? Lotsa combinations. But could you tell us if you have a battery monitor? That would help us detectives, for starters. But you're the guy who actually has the boat, right in front of you. :)

I haven't added or changed anything on this system except replacing the failed alternator regulator with a Balmar.

Any feedback from Tartan Yachts.... are they still in business, do they have an owner's association? Ooops, question limit reached, I'll shut up. :)

Which is why I asked. Maine Sail's reply makes a lot of sense. The Link 2000R was a Link 2000 battery monitor that had an added alternator regulator packaged with it.

No, except that the Link 2000R has battery monitoring features, like Amp-hour counting, etc.

I should dig out the hardcopy docs I have for this thing and see if there's any mention of this thing in there, but I don't recall every seeing any.

If it's useful, a quick search on Maine Sail's identification came up with an on-line manual that references the Monitor Terminal Board (PDF page 9) and written description of teach terminal pin (starting on page 10) (sadly no schematic, that I'm seeing, though).

Looks like Xantrex has some (old) documentation too, not sure how it compares.

You might have the description backwards: The Link 2000R is a battery monitor, I/C controller and lastly has the added feature of an alternator regulator. Notice which comes last. The Link 2000 is a battery monitor. No regulator. Guess what the R is for? :)

You have since been rewarded with the manual online. Happy reading.

I remember when I put my Link 2000 in the boat. I did so enjoy crimping 16 X 2 or maybe 3 those ring terminals on those teeny wires. Before you trash the whole thing, consider saving those wires and rings, ya never know. The circuit board's useless except for a museum piece or maybe someone online somewhere wants one. Look around, be a hero to somebody! :yikes:
