I have a painted hull, on my 2006 H41DS (Awlgrip) and the paint makes it extremely difficult to read the HIN on the Starboard Aft of the hull. I have been told there is another location on the hull that the HIN can be read. I have looked but I have no idea where it might be. Does anyone know where it is and please give me a clue how to find it?

On my O’Day, it is written on the hull in the lazzarette.

No idea on a Hunter.

I thought that the second location was a secret to prevent obliteration for a stolen vessel.

Try the bulkhead around the engine compartment. I don't have any idea, but that seems like a likely place to put one.

Try doing a "grave stone rubbing" to read the HIN. Put a piece of paper over the HIN and then use a sofl pencil or artist's graphite chalk to rub over the number.

The other location might be a piece of paper laminated into the hull, some where inaccessible without cutting away some interior fiberglass. In the case of stolen boat a few hundred dollars to repair the liner is not a big expense.

If you registered your boat with the Coast Guard, they have your HIN #

Try the gravestone trick.. Overlay a sheet of paper and using a pencil or crayon go back and forth.... You'd be surprised...

I have the HIN it is just not verifiable by looking at the hull impression. I was told there was a second impression some place but I just cannot locate it.

Just thought I would update you all on this post. Indeed Hunter does have a secondary HIN on the H41DS (also probably the AC as well). It is located under the rudder control cover situated just below the Helm. Take the floor plate up and it is on the Port side. It may be cover with a black tape. I was told the tape is supposed to be removed in the factory but in my case it was not. A huge thanks to the fellows at Hunter Owners for leading me to this discovery.
