1 - anyone know the AWG of main battery connection cables offhand? I forgot to measure this weekend. As a first step toward electrical upgrades, want to install a battery monitor, uses a shunt on the main negative connection.
2 - is there a check valve or backflow preventer built into the fresh water pressure pump or plumbing before the manifold?

Noting that this is a "First step" toward an upgrade, just repeating the AWG sized wires may or may not be the best action plan.
Attached is a chart from BlueSea that identifies the cable length (to be measured from connection to connection and then doubled to get the total length for DC circuits) and the amperage for various cable sizes. Assuming this is in an engine space the cables need to me the minimum recommended temperature rating of 105ºC.

Standard pumps are pulsing pumps and have the check valve built in.

thanks Jim - i just need to add a very short piece on the negative side to add the shunt.

and again, thanks. That's what I thought. Should just be able to connect the shore side to the easiest to reach cold pex line

No check value before pump and same as battery cables used should be used
