Oil/Trans Oil Types for 2002 Westerbeke 44A with JS Trans

Hello,

I just bought a 2002 Beneteau 393 and it has a Westerbeke engine with a JS transmission.

Can someone please tell me the correct engine and transmission oil types to be used?

I typed Westerbeke engine with a JS transmission. Into google and the manual popped right up.

Without a manual for your engine, which you have read and thoroughly understand, you won't have your engine for very long until the mechanics show up with some bad news and invoices you won't believe.

I have read the manual w/r to JS Trans oil and it says SAE20W-20 or SAE30W. I guess seeing normal engine oil vs a usual transmission type oil has me wanting confirmation from someone else. That's the reason for my post.

Yanmar GM engines with Kanzaki transmissions list using whatever your engine uses for oil, use the same for the transmission so it's not uncommon.

I would NEVER accept confirmation from an online discussion site over the published literature of the manufacturer. I would definitely seek out other Westerbeke publications from the site to confirm your findings and that's as far as it goes. I know my Yanmar has numerous publications on maintenance, parts, etc. which will confirm specs between manuals.
