What used to be here? Vent in head.

Hi all, what was the original purpose of this pipe that extends into the head? I'd like to restore it to what it was or put it to use in another way. The photo of the deck shows what it looks like on the top. Air does passively flow through.

It is located in the head, next to a solar-powered exhaust fan.

There's adhesive smeared on the end, which tells me something was once attached to it. It's kind of unsightly as is and if its original purpose was to increase ventilation I'd like to increase its ability to do so. Aside from the solar power exhaust fan there's no other ventilation in the head. Also, the dodger covers the solar-powered fan, so only on very bright days does it even work.

If the original purpose can't be determined any ideas of what to do with it? Aside from just leaving it as is?

Thanks for any ideas.

Do you (or did the boat) have a composting head? They often use a vent to get air circulation.

Greg - good thinking but no, the boat has always had a plumbed marine toilet with holding tank.
I should add, the pipe is on the opposite side of the head from the toilet.

Someone added some ventilation. The former owner, if he can be found among the living, will know the answer.

I thought it looked like a heater too. But seems very specific to have a heater in a small 35 foot sailboat head. If I don’t put a heater back there, has anyone seen what creative ideas can be done with those pipes? I do have a heater pipe in the main salon that is just capped off…

Any other evidence of ducting or some type of appliance connection. A holding tank vent, perhaps, or a dehumidifier. It obviously had an important function, making it an interesting mystery whose resolution we all eagerly anticipate:).

It could have been a water heater, no a space heater.

It looks like a small Charlie Nobel, but I couldn’t think why would be in the head…but as @jviss said, maybe an on-demand propane water heater ?
