B&G Vulcan 900 & Airmar DST810 issues

Hi all,

I’m bench testing my new Vulcan 900 and DST 810 before installing on the boat. The Vulcan isn’t “seeing” the DST. In other words, the DST isn’t showing up on the Vulcan when I search for connected devises. …and it’s not working.

The DST was a new open-box special with the original cable severed and a new replacement provided. I connected all like color wires together. During testing I wasn’t getting 12v from the black/red wires from the Vulcan.

Is there a setting on the Vulcan that I was suppose to use to active the NMEA network?

Thoughts and advice appreciated.

I don’t think the Vulcan powers the N2K network. You’d generally have a backbone with its own power source, and both the Vulcan and DST plug into that backbone.

The issue may be lack of power to the transducer. I don't know if the Vulcan can supply power to the N2K network. If so you will need to either add a display unit (Triton) or a power connector to the network.

David is exactly correct. Just a heads up, Airmar, Garmin and Simrad all make individual N2k parts and starter kits. Don't over invest. Sometimes drop down cords and connectors are included with various devices. I also found that there is a slight difference between Garmin and Simrad's Tee connector's orientation. Kind of hard to explain, they both work but for my the Garmin product fit my mounting arrangement better. There's no difference in price, just sayin' if the tee doesn't lay flat then you might try another brand.

This will happen with the Tee's. The orientation of the key in the socket is slightly different for different brands. They can be interchanged and electrically they are all the same, however when mixing brands, Navico, vs. Marathon, vs whomever else, the Tees won't align, sometimes this matters, sometimes not.
