H240 bulkhead thickness

I'm building a wooden organizer to add some storage for sunglasses, sunscreen, reading material, etc. I want to bolt it directly to the bulkhead between the v-berth and the main area of the cabin. Does anyone know the thickness of that material, and/or have any suggestions for secure attachment? I was thinking bolts would be secure, but I don't want sharp protrusions on either side.

Next you'll likely need some sort of decorative metal backing plate on the opposite side depending on how thick the bulkhead is and the load of the wooden organizer.

I like this idea. I figured I'd probably just use some large washers on either side.

Anyone know if this is 3/4inch material? I'm assuming so, but thought I'd see if anyone could confirm before I have to make multiple trips out to the boat.

I know what you mean about knowing the thickness in advance would make life so much easier. The work is about a 5 min. job and the prep works is hours and hours and ........... The Chicago screws will likely have to be shortened. Maybe drill a 1/8" hole in a place where it won't be seen or where you'll be installing the screws and check the thickness of the bulkhead.

If you put a clamp across it you can measure the difference and get the answer.

a half dozen 3M Command Strips would do the job and no holes.

I'm betting 1/2" but that's from memory and not worth a shit lately.

Yep, exactly. If I go out there, I can measure it with calipers. But I was hoping to have what I need to install the next time I visit, including the bolts.

But, I really like the idea of 3M strips. ha

Except if the bulkhead is treated with teak oil as most Hunters are.
Nasty tendency to come loose in hot weather and fall off at exactly 03:10 when you're in your deepest REM sleep.

haha - yes, that's exactly when it would happen! In my case, the bulkhead is laminated so it seems like it might be a good substrate. Although they might not stick to my box well.

I think when it comes to rockin' and rollin' on the water, I'd prefer solid mechanical attachments for heavier items such as your box.

Maybe consider the recessed fittings that screw onto the back edge of the shelf's support bracket or edge. The type that screws to the back over a drilled recess and has a slot that slides over a screw head mounted to and slightly above the bulkhead. If you could use a short enough screw to not penetrate the bulkhead the whole support would be invisible.

I used #8 Flat Head Brass Wood Screws, one and a half inches long to attach mine. Project is in owner mods under H240. I also put a 20amp electric plug strip under the shelf.
