Hi, I need to replace the gas strut that assist lifting of the seat at the aft transom of my 2012 Bene 37 - i.e. the seat that is lifted so that one can walk through to swim platform. The part that I'd like to replace is made by Ressorts Spec and has a model number of 081490 - 400N. Any suggestions on where to get a replacement strut that would fit?

So you know the strength its 400 newtons, measure the diameter of rod and diameter of body common sizes are 6x15,8x18, 10x22. It looks like a 8x18mm ,good news is you can order any length and fitting ends and in Stainless steel . You then need extended length and stroke in mm. Is it threaded on the end ,can't see it if is most likely 6mm

Thank you Mechone for your suggestions. I have a couple of follow-up questions. First, I think you're right that the diameter is 8X18. The old one (in the picture) does not appear to be threaded in the end or if it was, it is warn and corroded. I will have to wait until I go back to the boat to see how/what it was attached to but assume it is the ball socket still attached to the boat. The extended length and stroke measures around 580mm and 270mm.
My questions: can you suggest where to look for a supplier of these struts? I've looked on McMaster-Carr's site but could not find a "perfect" match there. Also, how close should the replacement part match the original? Can I assume a centimeter or two in length won't be an issue as long as the seat closes before full compression? Thanks again for your help.

I have bought these many times for industrial applications in fact stainless and have never had one fail LST Gas Springs / Lift Supports – Quality Gas Spring Manufacturer – Stock & Custom Springs (lstechnologies.ca) I don't know if they sell direct , i ordered through a distributer
Call Beneteau USA to determine the part number. Once you have the number in hand, you will have to order from a Beneteau dealer.

Looks like the strut from my Vanagon rear hatch. Check automotive sources. That is unless you feel you need to buy OEM.
I am a betting man and I bet Beneteau got the strut from a auto parts manufacture and repurposed it for their sail boat.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I found a local guy (I live in Vancouver Canada) who sells and services struts of all shapes and sizes. He set me up with a perfect fit in stainless steel and the price was very reasonable (CAD$65). Frank runs Strutwise out of his home in Surrey, BC.
