I am thinking of cutting the core in two sections which will allow me to remove it for cleaning without disconnecting the housing as well.
Why do we even bother to repeat this :
You intend to cut
THIS in half :
.................. and then what, tape it back together, wire it back together, buy a new one because it was a lousy idea to cut it in the first place ?
With a few photos:
Firstly, we could get a picture of WHAT you intend to cut in half.
Secondly, maybe we could see a better way of removing the heat exchanger.
There is a whole slew of engineers, mechanics, and very experienced individuals on this site who :
DON'T HAVE YOUR BOAT ! ! !
................ so cannot offer their expertise without seeing what they're dealing with.
As we always say to people who don't include pictures: "Help us to help you."
My generator is mounted forward of the engine and does not allow me to remove the core of the heat exchanger without removing the exchanger housing first.
And lastly of course : is this the generator hex or the main engine hex?
