For my fellow northern sailors: shoveling the snow out around the sailboat while it's on the trailer counts as boat time right? I mean, technically the boat is in/near water so that should count. :)
Thankfully my snow shovel includes a 23hp diesel motor and hydraulics, so that helps some. We had a really mild fall, but when winter finally showed up it did so with aplomb. We've had snow accumulating for a month now, today was another 3"-ish so far. I'm not complaining, I do like the winter time too. This afternoon I get my new seat put back on the snowmobile and got it fueled and ready since it looks like I'll be able to use it for a while.
Anyhoo, being around the boat while I was plowing gave me a little lift of the spirits, looking forward to next summer. :)

I am told, if you let the snow build up around the boat until it hits the water line, it is easier to get aboard in winter.
We had over 3 feet last year, which wasn't enough for the 5ft draft boat. It did work for the C22 with swing keel. Would likely work either way if you lived in Labrador.

Doing so also has the advantage of delaying boat work in the spring due to difficulty in access.:beer:
That I can confirm works.

I was in a snow channel like that twice. Once after an avalanche was cleared in the Rockies near Arapahoe Pass, and the second was at the seasonal opening of McKenzie Pass over the Cascades.

That is a lot of snow.

Very much so.

It was obviously a big deal when the tough Newfoundland and Labrador locals thought it was worth documenting.

The east coast of Canada gets moisture like crazy, so they end up with snow, ice storms, and melting.. Sometimes in the same week. :yikes:

Somewhere I have a staged photo that I use to convince people that all Canadians do in fact have Igloos. Taken just outside the breakwater in February.
