I like it. However, it's a lot of weight with a high CG, especially for a 38' boat.

Yeah, Mads (his name) has a lot of cool electrical toys on his 38 ft. boat.
That's why he needs all that juice.
I often worry that he will have problems when some of those gizmos start to fail.

I am constantly trying to put that genie back in the bottle.

It’s nice to have enough power available to not worry about lights or electronic instrument loads. I put 1600w of solar on my cat with 900AH house bank, and was able to run AC on battery overnight when anchored in marshes in the ICW. (No generator noise). It kept out the swarms and was comfortable even if it was raining. We were back to 100% charge before noon the next day. This makes cruising more comfortable. There was a heat wave when we went through the Dismal Swamp Canal.
edit - When at anchor more than a day we can also run the hot water heater off the inverter with no worries and no fossil fuel burned :)

Yeah but he has a lot of flex in his arch. He has to use dynema lines to stabilize the arch. I cant help but wonder what will happen to that assembly when one day, he gets unexpectedly caught in 70kt winds at sea and violent waves. I like his channel and the idea in general, but i cant get rid of this nagging feeling its a disaster waiting to happen. Now that he has a wind vane tucked under it, it that arch goes he may loose his wind vane as well. It just seems like so much weight up high. Athena is a reasonably heavy boat but seems to have a very high freeboard and possibly a high CoG.
