One side of the keel tray on my H26 Trailer has failed. It is plywood, about 12” by 8’ . The boards are bowed downward. Is this simply a result of weight bearing over the years and can these boards be replaced with a straight pieces of treated plywood?

Our 260 trailer uses a pressure treated 2x12 from the factory. Cover with a good outdoor carpet or purpose made bunk carpet - attach with stainless staples. It might be a good time to look at adding a keel guide if you have difficulty centering the boat on retrieval.

You may need to raise the bunk board supports when adding a larger keel tray

You will need to make sure the center board.is not pinched between the center board housing and keel tray. If it is, you may need longer supports.

Thanks all for the article and suggestions. Since my H26 trailer is designed for the thinner boards (the brackets on the rear crossmember will accommodate just less than 1"), I will stay with a 1X8 board or the 3/4" plywood to keep the original load bearing relationship (as Crazy Dave cautions). My thought is to stay with the original plywood idea for strength and flexibility over a treated pine plank, but 1x8 planks would be a less expensive solution than buying a whole sheet of plywood to get two 8-inch wide strips. Rgranger-how are your deck planks working out? (Although in your photos they sure look like plywood!)

If you use thicker wood, be sure to adjust the supports. Use self drilling screws when attaching the carpet to the wood. Much easier and faster than staples

No... not plywood. I actually had some left over decking planks from a deck I had restored. They worked just like the original boards did.
