Hello all, my Beneteau 323 inhaul [originally posted as outhaul] line for in-mast furling is stiff and frayed but the marina owner says that the mast must come down to replace. Is this true? If anyone has done a replacement of this line, I would appreciate any advice you can offer.

I can't imagine why you would "need" to take down the mast. On my in-mast furler setup, the outhaul (like the mainsheet) travels inside from the end of the boom then out near the gooseneck to fairleads at the deck. It doesn't travel through the mast at all. Replacement of the outhaul could be done by "mousing" a messenger/leader to the end and pulling through.

Here's a video I found helpful that shows a few techniques:

What brand of mast? US Spars has instructions for replacing the line at https://www.usspars.com/wp-content/uploads/PDF/Changing the Furling Rope.pdf. It looks like their steps assume the mast is still up.
Too early in the morning for me I guess - you said outhaul not inhaul. I can think of even less reason to take down the mast for the outhaul line, since like jdrutten said the outhaul doesn’t really have anything to do with the mast. If you meant outhaul just tie the new line to the old and pull it through the boom.

Should have written "inhaul"! Sorry to confuse.

You should also consider cleaning/relubing the furler bearings and the mast slide . This can be done with the sail down but mast up. Caution-- work on a clean bench/sheet to catch the loose bearing balls. The new grease will hold the balls in place on reassembly. BTW - if you do the mast slide, mark UP before removal - past experience issue.
